FOCUS: Offender Re-entry Mentoring Program

The Maitri Project sponsors a joint project with FOCUS to provide psychotherapy for inmates transitioning back into society. Many of these people are suffering from psychological challenges over and above the difficulties of finding resources to create a life: job, home, food, medical and dental care, education and other basic needs.

Many of the FOCUS clientele have been diagnosed with mental disorders (bi-polar, depression) and others have struggled with substance abuse, particularly Meth addiction and alcoholism.

FOCUS offers their clientele a Mentor relationship to support the transition from jail back into free society.

The Maitri Project has partnered with FOCUS to offer individual therapy for FOCUS clients who need the psychological support through the transition. The funding will also provide processing groups and individual support for the Mentors who volunteer their time in this awarding, yet challenging role.
